Episode 27 :: Yealands Estate utilises heat recovery - transcript

[Animated opening sequence, music and title: EECA Business: The Energy Spot]

We open on a gas burner, it's producing a blast of flame, we hear Jared say:

Hi, there's a lot of heat here, disappearing into the atmosphere.

We cut wide to see that the gas burner is in fact part of a hot air balloon. The balloon lifts into the air.

But if we capture it...

We cut to to see the inside of the balloon, it's fully inflated.

... we can put it to better use.

Cut to Jared walking inside the reception area of Yealand's Estate winery.

And that's what Yealands Estate have done.

Jared is joined by another man, a caption introduces him as Peter Mann, Yealands Estate Wines, Operations/Sustainability Manager.

Hey Peter

Peter starts showing Jared around one of the refrigeration plants. He says:

The by-product of refrigeration is heat, and that's normally just lost.

Jared says:

Right.

Peter and Jared are round the back of the refrigeration unit, we can see the heat exchange and recovery system. Peter indicates it and says.

So we trap it, and use it to heat water throughout the winery.

Jared turns to us and says:

It's like that balloon - capturing heat and using it. All sorts of businesses can benefit from the ‘Heat Recovery' process.

Now we see shots insulated pipes throughout the vineyard.

Yealands have also insulated their pipes...

Now we cut to the wine tasting/sales room, we see various awards on the bench in front of us. We cut to a screen laptop, we can see a diagrammatic representation of energy use around the vineyard.

.... and installed an energy monitoring system...

Peter says:

And all these improvements have halved our energy costs, increased productivity and enhanced our reputation.
