Episode 7 :: Vehicle choices - transcript

Open on Jared in a car dealership, he’s in front of the showroom, the forecourt has lots of cars, all kinds of makes and models – from family to sports cars, new and used. He says:
Did you know that every car has two prices?
Jared’s standing next to a car and we can see the dealer price on the windscreen.
The one on the windscreen. And the price of fuelling it.
We cut to two car similar cars and we see the first car move forward to reveal a graphic painted in yellow on the forecourt that reads ‘5 Year Fuel Costs $9,000. We hear Jared say:
Fuel costs can vary a lot between similar vehicles over the lifetime of the car.
Now the second car pulls away to reveal a graphic on the forecourt that reads ‘5 Year Fuel Costs $16,000.
We now see Jared inside the car dealership again and he is working at a laptop. He is looking on the rightcar.govt.nz webpage and he says:
This website has lots of information to help you compare similar types of vehicles. It shows you their average yearly fuel costs, so you can see which one offers you the best fuel economy.
We see a close-up of the screen, the web-page shows a page from rightcar.govt.nz. We see the description and running costs of two similar vehicles.
Now Jared walks over to another car in the dealership and we see the VFE label, we cut in close as he says:
When you’re looking for a car that’s right for you, the Vehicle Fuel Economy Label lets you know the cost of fuelling the car, over a year. Here's a tip: Check out the stars too. The more stars a car has, the more fuel efficient it is.
We cut between a variety of VFEL labels on similar vehicles. We can they all have see different ratings.
Whatever vehicle you need, there’s a choice that will save you fuel and money.
We cut back to Jared inside the dealership again. He sums up by saying:
By choosing the kind of car that you want, that’s also fuel efficient, you’re on the road to saving money and reducing the cost to our environment.
