Getting clean efficient heating installed under the Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart programme
There are lots of heating options for homes, but using the right kind of energy efficient heater for your circumstances will mean that you can keep your home warm, healthy and comfortable to live in while keeping running costs low.
Under the Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart programme you can get up to $500 funding towards the cost of installing a clean efficient heater in your primary living area if there isn't one there already, your home is insulated and was built before 2000.
What heating can I get?
There are a number of different types of clean efficient heaters that you can get under the Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart programme, these include:
- ENERGY STAR heat pumps
- Wood burners
- Pellet burners
- 4-star AGA-rated flued gas heaters
Providers use different products. If you are after a particular product you may need to contact a few providers to see who installs that product.

What funding is available?
If your house was built before 2000 and is insulated you can get funding towards the installation of a clean efficient heater in your primary living area.

How do I get heating and apply for funding?
To get your heating and funding simply choose an approved service provider(s) in your area to get a quote which will tell you the amount of funding you are eligible for.
- Choose an approved service provider(s)
- The provider will come to assess your home and provide you with a quote
- Confirm with the provider that you want to go ahead with the work
- The provider will then complete the work, and bill you for your portion of the total cost
- The provider will contact EECA to pay for the amount funded by the programme
