Apply for a heat pump water heating grant
If you install a heat pump water heater by 30 November 2009 you can get $1,000 back and help EECA improve its understanding of efficient water heating products.
How does the scheme work?
EECA is running a pilot scheme to gather information about how well heat pump water heaters perform in real operating conditions in New Zealand households and businesses.
EECA will provide a grant in two payments of $500 to customers who install an eligible heat pump water heater and agree to take part in the information gathering stage of the scheme.
How do I get $1000 off my heat pump water heater?
There are two criteria that customers must meet to qualify for the $1000 grant:
- Purchase a heat pump water heater that has been accepted for the pilot scheme (an eligible product) and have an electricity meter and a water meter installed with the product by a qualified tradesperson. (If meters are required they are supplied free of charge by EECA and are in a pack attached to the product when you purchase it.)
- Provide EECA with three separate monthly electricity and water meter readings after the installation and complete a customer survey as part of the last meter reading. The readings and survey can be done by phone or email.
NB. Full instructions on how to take part in the funding scheme are provided with eligible heat pump water heaters, along with the water and electricity meters required to take readings.
How do I find an eligible heat pump water heater?
Download a list of eligible heat pump water heaters that have been accepted by EECA for the pilot scheme, and the suppliers that provide them.
These eligible products are either manufactured in NZ or imported by companies that have met the product criteria and have been accepted by EECA to participate in the pilot scheme.
Contact the supplier of your choice from the list to find out what type of heat pump water heater is best for your hot water needs, and where you can purchase it. The supplier will advise you of which qualified tradesman is required to install it and details of the installation process.
Do I need a Building Consent?
The Department of Building and Housing provides information on their website about whether a Building Consent is required or not: check out heat pump water heaters on the DBH website.
