Biofuels
Biofuels are fuels that can be produced from renewable materials, such as plant and animal matter. They are usually blended with petrol and diesel to make biofuel blends.
Using biofuel blends is one way New Zealand drivers can help address climate change impacts, by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transport.
Sustainably-produced biofuels have many benefits for New Zealand. By using a renewable alternative to fossil fuels to run our transport fleets we can:
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change
- Improve air quality by reducing air pollution through the use of cleaner burning fuels
- Lessen our dependence on imported oil
Biofuels have been in use worldwide for over 20 years now. South America, the United States, Canada, parts of Europe, Asia and Australia all use biofuel blends.
One of the easiest things New Zealand drivers can do to help the environment is to start using sustainable biofuels.
