Ratings and labels
In order to make energy efficient choices, you need to have the right information. That's why we have energy rating labels on some of our products, appliances and cars.
The labels show you how much energy something is likely to use over a year. The labels use a star rating so you can easily see how similar products compare.
The labels are clearly displayed on the product so you can easily take energy efficiency into consideration when you are making your choice.
Labels on products and appliances
In New Zealand, we have two different kinds of energy labels for products and appliances:
- Energy rating labels - give you information on how much energy a product uses and a star rating so you can compare similar models. They are currently found on whiteware and heat pumps
- ENERGY STAR® - the independent, international benchmark for energy efficiency. It is awarded to the top 25% most energy efficient appliances, home entertainment products and office equipment in each category.
Fuel consumption labels on cars
We also have vehicle fuel economy labels on all new and most late model cars. The labels show how much fuel a car is likely to use and give a star rating so you can compare similar models.
