Three key ingredients for a warm, comfortable home

A warm, comfortable, healthy home is a combination of three key ingredients: insulation, ventilation and heating.

Insulation, ventilation and heating work together to:

  • Remove moisture and reduce the risk of mould and mildew growth
  • Reduce maintenance costs in your home, and
  • Keep your home at healthy, comfortable temperatures year-round.

We open on Jared in the kitchen. He's doing a bit of cooking. In front of him, we see a baking tray with cookies on it that he's been preparing, they're now ready to go into the oven. He says to us:

Hi! Here's a great recipe, and it only needs three ingredients...

We pan across three ingredients on the kitchen bench: one cup of peanut butter, one cup of sugar and an egg.

Jared continues:

With just these right here, you can make delicious peanut butter cookies.

He slides the baking tray into the oven as he says:

It's the same with having a warm, comfortable, healthy home - there are three ingredients: insulation, ventilation and heating.

We cut to see the image of the exterior of a house. An animated line travels around the house showing the thermal bubble.

The first ingredient is insulation, to trap heat in. Insulate ceilings, walls and floors, and stop draughts.

We cut to see Jared's foot moving a draught-stopper against a door. Jared is back in the kitchen and he says to us:

The next ingredient, ventilation is important to keep air fresh and dry. Use externally vented fans to remove moisture from kitchens, bathrooms and laundries.

We see cutaways of extractor fans in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry. Now Jared is at the French windows, which open to the back garden. He opens the window to allow air in.

Here's a tip, the simplest way to ventilate is to open your doors and windows, for just a few minutes each day.

Jared says:

Our third ingredient... heating.

We see Jared checking a website, we pan across to see the heating choices as Jared says:

Efficient heaters use less energy, so it will cost you less to keep your home warm.

Jared walks through the house back towards the kitchen.

Combining the three ingredients of insulation, ventilation and heating together, is a recipe for warmer, drier, healthier homes, and that's better for all of us.

We see Jared back at the oven, he's taking the baked peanut butter cookies out of the oven and bites into one of the delicious warm cookies. Jared says:
