Solar calculator

Does solar electricity stack up for you? Solar electricity systems (also known as photovoltaics, PV systems, or solar panels) convert sunlight into electricity. This calculator helps you assess solar for your house.

You’ll be asked for your address and about your electricity usage - we recommend you have an electricity bill handy. It will take you about 10-15 minutes to work through the questions.

We've included a video below to give you more information on solar. You might want to watch this before you start.

At the end you will get a detailed report estimating how much value you would get from solar. So, grab your power bill, make yourself comfy and let’s get started.

The calculator uses solar data provided by the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research through its SolarView service.

The calculator gives a useful estimate but depending on what happens in future years, the actual costs and benefits of purchasing solar could vary from those predicted. Your circumstances and the other factors that impact on the economic value of solar (e.g. electricity pricing arrangements) can change over the life of the system (25 years or more).
